Whenever you’re in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude.

Family Counseling

Transforming Struggles into Family Strengths

Through my years of working with individuals and groups, I understand that families are the cornerstone of our lives. Strong family relationships can provide love, support, and a sense of belonging that helps us thrive. However, every family faces its unique challenges and conflicts, and that's where Family Therapy comes in. If you're looking to enhance your family's dynamics, overcome obstacles, and create a harmonious environment, you're in the right place.

What Is Family Therapy?

Family therapy is a specialized form of counseling that focuses on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and enhancing the overall well-being of the family unit. Our sessions will be grounded in the principles of Systemic Therapy, which is all about viewing your family as an interconnected unit or team. We aim to understand how each family member influences the whole and identify what needs adjustment to foster greater harmony and happiness. This approach relieves individuals from the burden of carrying problems, frustrations, blame or concerns on their own. Instead, it promotes a collaborative, team-based approach to problem-solving and the creation of long-lasting solutions for overall well-being.

Currently only seeing clients in Rhode Island and Massachusetts

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I accept BCBS. If you have a different insurance plan, don’t hesitate to reach out to hear your options!

    Can I use out-of-network benefits?

In some cases you may be eligible to use out-of-network insurance benefits. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment. If appropriate, I will provide a super bill each month that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. For more information check out this post.

What if I can’t afford your rate? Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes, I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots in my schedule. If you do not think you can afford my full fee, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Can you work with clients anywhere in the country?

As a therapists I only provide services in the state(s) I am licensed. I am licensed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. You must live in one of these states in order for us to work together.

What if I’m not sure we’re a good fit?

Before scheduling a therapy session, I do a free 15 minute intro call with all potential new clients. This gives us the chance to get to know each other.

    Here’s what you can expect:

-I’ll ask you about why you’re seeking therapy

-I’ll tell you a bit about myself and my approach as a therapist

-You can ask me any questions that you have or about things I didn’t cover

-We’ll talk about rates, insurance, availability, etc.

So we’re a good fit. What next?

If we both decide we're a good fit after our intro call, we'll schedule our first therapy appointment. I'll send you a couple of quick forms to complete before our first session. I'll also send you a link for our video calls that you can use every week. All forms need to be completed before your first session.

What’s the first therapy session like?

As a Therapist, I have a collaborative, non-judgmental, and relatable approach that will make getting started a bit easier. During our first session or two, I'll ask you a bunch of questions to get a better picture of your life journey. We will come up with goals together of what you hope to accomplish in therapy and I will reflect any patterns I am able to identify early on.

During sessions you'll have an opportunity to vent, gain perspective and new insights, learn to challenge your thoughts, receive feedback, and develop and practice new coping skills. Sometimes therapy can be tough work, and sometimes it is fun and full of laughter. Either way, I am here to support you and will help you achieve the change and growth you are looking for.

    How often will we meet?

I meet with the majority of my clients on a weekly basis. I ask that all new clients commit to meeting weekly, for at-least the first 6 weeks. This will allow us to start off on a strong foot, so you can start seeing progress right away. I may recommend that we increase or decrease the frequency of sessions to best meet your needs.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

My approach is solutions focused. This means you won’t have to be in therapy forever. Many of my clients find that they’ve met their goals in 3-6 months and no longer need therapy.

I also have clients who choose to remain in therapy for much longer; they have seen improvements and still really enjoy having ongoing support and a place to process their thoughts and feelings each week. This is a collaborative decision and we will check in frequently about your progress and needs.
